Background

The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) is a department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) which responsible for preparing, producing, publishing and supplying registered aquaculture farms data to provide technical planning studies, preparation of development plans, management and protection of natural resources to ensures sustainable development and enables a balanced, sustainable and orderly economic activity.

The Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) is a department under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) which is responsible for implementing system development / application package based on remote sensing and other related technologies and remote sensing satellite image services through an ARSM-based application-based system. The application-based systems developed, will be used by Government agencies to facilitate and enhance planning and management in various sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, forestry, natural and environmental resources, auditing, environmental health, physical and infrastructure development, disasters, public order, security and the sovereignty of the nation.

DOF, through Fisheries Biosecurity Division; and MYSA has agreed to cooperate on increasing the use of remote sensing technology and other related technologies such as Geographic Information System (GIS) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ("remote sensing and related technology") on the management and monitoring of fisheries biosecurity activities more efficient and effective based on the DOF-ARSM Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 27, 2018.
